Red Bud notched its second consecutive shutout victory Friday night by topping Metro East Lutheran 63-0.
The Musketeers scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth for the blowout victory.
“Metro East has been struggling all year, so we wanted to jump on them early and take care of business,” said Red Bud coach Dave Lucht. “Offensively, we gained a lot of confidence in our running game. Hubert had a great night and gave us a big lift early.”
Tyler Hubert scored four touchdowns in the first half, while racking up 163 yards on just six carries. Hubert had touchdown runs of one, four, 62 and 70 yards.
Tyler Magruder scored three touchdowns in the win with a receiving score, a punt return for a score and an interception return for points.
“Magruder was just everywhere for us,” said Lucht. “It says a lot when one person can score a touchdown three different ways in one game.”
While 63 points was scored, it was the Musketeer’s defense that once again stole the show. Red Bud held Metro East to just 103 yards of total offense to pick up its third shutout of the season.
“Defensively, we are really starting to gel,” added Lucht. “They are pursuing the ball well and making plays. I am real pleased with what I am seeing and hopefully that will continue.”
The Musketeers will travel to take on Columbia (3-4) Friday night.
