Benton (2-1) rallied from a 13-12 halftime deficit to knock off Pinckneyville (1-2) 27-13 Friday night.
Each team scored one touchdown in each of the first two quarters. The difference was Benton went 0-for-2 on two-point conversions while Pinckneyville knocked in an extra point kick to claim the one-point halftime lead.
Pinckneyville’s J.D. Conner returned an interception 45 yards late in the first quarter to tie the game up at 6-6.
After Benton scored to regain the lead, Daulton Hubler connected with Adam Barczewski for a 34-yard touchdown pass. Caleb Howard kicked the extra point to give the Panthers the slim lead.
However, that would be all the scoring Pinckneyville would do as Benton scored the go ahead touchdown late in the third quarter and added another score early in the fourth for the 14-point win.
Benton gained 336 yards of total offense while holding Pinckneyville to just 125 yards.
Neil Kellerman led the Pinckneyville offense with eight carries for 51 yards while Hubler completed 2-of-12 passes for 40 yards.
The Panthers travel to take on conference power Anna-Jonesboro (3-0) Friday night.
