Trico took a major step toward claiming the Black Diamond West conference title with a 53-49 win over Sesser-Valier Friday night.

The Pioneers remained unbeaten in conference play with the victory and move closer to claiming the title outright.

The Pioneers led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 26-24 at halftime and 39-33 after three quarters of play.

Trico battled back in the fourth to outscore Sesser-Valier 20-10 for the four-point win.

Logan Thies scored a game-high 18 points to lead Trico, while Jesse Smith added 12 and Chase Heins had 11.

Sesser-Valier was led by Justin Matyi’s 16 points.
