Trico fell behind 24-9 in the first quarter and its second half rally came up short in a 54-50 loss to Maplewood in the consolation quarterfinals of the Carbondale Holiday Tournament Tuesday.
The Pioneers trailed by as much as 17 points in the contest and was able to cut the deficit to one point, but that would be as close as Trico would get.
Trico outscored Maplewood 16-10 in the second quarter, 11-10 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth.
Logan Thies led Trico with 16 points, while Jesse Smith added 15.
With the loss Trico fell to 7-3 overall and 0-2 in the tournament.
The Pioneers faced Union County Kentucky Wednesday in tournament play and suffered its third consecutive loss of the season.
