Marissa-Coulterville rallied from a nine-point first quarter deficit to knock off Chester 50-49 in the first round of the Chester Invitational Tournament Tuesday night.
After falling behind 18-9 in the first quarter, the Meteors outscored Chester 15-9 in the second and 19-14 in the third for a 43-41 advantage heading in to the fourth.
The Yellow Jackets outscored Marissa-Coulterville 8-7 over the final eight minutes but came up one-point short in the end.
Casey Pitchford led the Meteors with 14 points, while Mike Lloyd and Dave Parkinson each had 10
Zach Lochhead finished with 20 points to lead Chester, while Aaron Grah added 14.
With the win, Marissa-Coulterville advanced to face Saxony Lutheran in the semifinals Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Chester falls into the consolation bracket where it will take on Dongola Friday at 7:30 p.m.
In other first round action, the tournament’s top seed New Athens cruised past Elverado Monday night, Valle Catholic topped Valley Park Monday night, and Saxony Lutheran defeated Dongola Tuesday night as all four of the top seeds advanced to the semifinal round.
