Area teams go 1-1 at Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament ... 12/27/11



Chester, Marissa-Coulterville and Sparta all went 1-1 after two games apiece in the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament.
Sparta is vying for the consolation championship, while Chester and Marissa-Coulterville are looking to compete for fifth place.
Woodlawn 62, Chester 56
A poor first quarter cost Chester in a 62-56 loss to Woodlawn Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind 13-6 in the first quarter. Chester regrouped to outscore Woodlawn 50-49 the rest of the way but couldn’t make up for the early deficit.
Chris Schwartz led Chester with 19 points, while Jacob Lochhead had 14.
Waltonville 61, Marissa-Coulterville 56
Joey Smith scored a game-high 30 points but it was not enough as Marissa-Coulterville fell to Waltonville 61-56 Tuesday.
The Meteors trailed 16-7 at the end of the first and 34-28 at the half.
Logan Tabor chipped in with 13 points for Marissa-Coulterville
Sparta 53, Zeigler-Royalton 46
Sparta rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to knock off Zeigler-Royalton 53-46 Tuesday morning in the consolation bracket.
Aaron Rushing led the way for the Bulldogs with 15 points, while Dalton Robert made four three-pointers in the win. He finished with 12 points.
Chester 59, Vienna 22
Chester outscored Vienna in every quarter including 28-6 in the second half to cruise to a 59-22 win Monday.
The Yellow Jackets led 16-10 in the first quarter and 31-16 at the break.
Chris Schwartz led Chester with 13 points, while Kyle Landon added 12.
Waltonville 62, Sparta 50
Waltonville outscored Sparta by 10 points in the fourth quarter to roll to a 62-50 win Monday morning.
The Bulldogs trailed 13-4 in the first quarter and 33-20 at halftime.
Sparta battled back in the third, outscoring Waltonville 19-8, to trail only 41-39 heading into the fourth.
Devante Garrett led Sparta with 14 points, while Aaron Rushing added 12 and Sharvell Austin had 11.
Marissa-Coulterville 53, Zeigler-Royalton 47
Marissa-Coulterville rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to knock off Zeigler-Royalton by six, 53-47 Monday morning in the opening round of the tournament.
The Meteors trailed 18-15 at the end of the first quarter and 33-27 at the break.
In the second half, Marissa-Coulterville outscored ZR 15-6 and 11-8 for the six-point win.
Joey Smith led the Meteors with 24 points, while Austin Place added nine.
