Steeleville 57, Lebanon 52
Steeleville used a big fourth quarter rally Tuesday night to hand Lebanon its first conference loss of the season and keep its own conference title hopes alive.
The Warriors trailed 16-13 at the end of the first quarter, 28-22 at halftime and 40-35 after three quarters of play.
Joey Wittenbrink made two big three-pointers for Steeleville, had some key steals and finished with 11 points. Andrew Pokrzywinski led Steeleville with 17 points, while Coire Reel had 10.
Tommy Pilackas had 16 points to lead Lebanon.
With the win, Steeleville improved to 7-1 in conference play and can clinch a share of the conference title with Lebanon with a win over New Athens next week.
Trico 60, Christopher 35
Trico outscored Christopher in every quarter including 33-20 in the second half for a 60-35 conference win Monday night.
The Pioneers led 9-5 at the end of the first and 27-15 at the break before outscoring the Bearcats 15-7 in the third and 18-13 in the fourth for the 25-point decision.
Jesse Smith paced the Pioneers with 20 points, while Chase Heins added 11 in the win.
With the win, Trico improved to 23-2 overall and 8-0 in the Black Diamond West.
Shawnee 63, Chester 61
Chester missed three consecutive free throws with under three seconds to play to hand a win to Shawnee Monday night in nonconference action.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind 14-10 in the first quarter, but rallied to claim a 30-25 advantage at the break.
Chester pushed its lead up to 12-points, 50-38, after outscoring the Redskins 20-13 in the third.
In the fourth, Shawnee rallied to outscore Chester 25-9 to pull out the two-point upset.
Zach Lochhead finished with 24 points to lead Chester, while Matt Chandler and Kyle Landon each had 10.
Ty McMahan scored 18 points to lead Shawnee.
Chester dropped to 10-11 on the season with the loss, while Shawnee improved to 4-18.
Trico 59, Benton 49 OT
Trico outscored Benton 10-0 in overtime to pull out a 59-49 victory Saturday in the Rich Herrin Classic.
The Pioneers, who were originally scheduled to take on Neoga, had to face the host Rangers due to unsafe travel conditions for other teams.
The Pioneers fell behind 19-10 in the first quarter but rallied for a 23-21 advantage at the break.
Benton outscored Trico 20-12 in the third, while the Pioneers got the upper hand in the fourth 14-8.
Jesse Smith finished with a game-high 38 points in a very physical game.
Steeleville 56, Marissa-Coulterville 48
Steeleville held off a late rally from Marissa-Coulterville Saturday for a 56-48 win in the Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division.
The Warriors led 11-10 in the first, 21-17 at the half and 38-23 after three quarters of play.
The Meteors outscored Steeleville 25-18 over the final eight minutes but couldn’t pull out the upset.
Clint Runyon led Marissa-Coulterville with 17 points and Joey Smith had 15.
Pinckneyville 43, Carterville 31
Pinckneyville outscored Carterville 16-8 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 43-31 victory Saturday in an SIRR Mississippi Division matchup.
The Panthers led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter and held a 20-13 lead at the intermission.
Kyle Lamb led Pinckneyville with 16 points, while Hunter Queen and Steve Brueggeman each had 10.
Chester 66, Elverado 42
Zach Lochhead and Kyle Landon combined to score 46 points to lead Chester past Elverado 66-42 Saturday night.
Chester led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter but fell behind 23-22 at halftime.
The Yellow Jckets outscored Elverado 44-19 in the second half for the 24-point win.
Lochhead finished with 26 points, while Landon added 20.
With the win, Chester improved to 10-10 on the season and 4-4 in the Black Diamond Conference.
Red Bud 60, Freeburg 41
Red Bud sank 10 three-pointers en route to a 60-41 victory over Freeburg Friday night in Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division action.
The Musketeers trailed 15-11 in the first quarter but went on to outscore the Midgets 18-3 in the second, 16-13 in the third and 15-10 in the fourth for the 19-point decision.
Adam Kunkel finished with 20 points to pace Red Bud’s offense, while Tyler Magruder had 17 and Jacob Kueker added 12.
Justin Diecker scored 13 to lead Freeburg.
Anna-Jonesboro 64, Sparta 46
Without Aaron Rushing, Sparta fell to Anna-Jonesboro 64-46 Friday night.
Brady Wright scored 34 points to lead Anna-Jonesboro, while Alek Sopiars led the Bulldogs with 10 points.
Nashville 39, Pinckneyville 33
Nashville remained unbeaten in conference play by holding off Pinckneyville 39-33 Friday night.
The Panthers fell behind 6-5 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 20-10 at halftime.
Pinckneyville battled back by outscoring the Hornets 23-19 in the second half, but came up six points short.
Steve Brueggeman, Dylan Hardin and Kyle Lamb all had seven points to lead the Pinckneyville attack.
Nashville improved to 20-3 overall and 7-0 in the SIRR Mississippi.
Valmeyer 75, Marissa-Coulterville 72
Valmeyer drained 10 three-pointers and rallied from a nine-point first quarter deficit to edge Marissa-Coulterville Friday night 75-72.
The Meteors led 24-15 in the first quarter and held a 42-38 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Valmeyer outscored Marissa-Coulterville 16-15 in the third and 21-15 in the fourth for the three-point decision.
The Marissa-Coulterville attack was led by Joey Smith with 24 points, Kevin Galle with 21 and Joel Klimas and Clint Runyon with 12 each.
Mike Wuelling and Ben Wuelling each had 24 points to lead Valmeyer.
