Chester 55, Zeigler-Royalton 32
Chester snapped a two-game losing skid Tuesday night with a 55-32 victory over Zeigler-Royalton in Black Diamond boys basketball action.
The Yellow Jackets outscored Zeigler-Royalton in every quarter including 28-15 in the first half.
Zach Lochhead led Chester with 20 points.
Du Quoin 81, Trico 76 (2OT)
Du Quoin made 13 three-pointers to edge out Trico Saturday night for a 81-76 win in double overtime. The loss was the first for the Pioneers this season.
The Indians led 18-17 at the end of the first quarter and held a 40-33 halftime advantage.
Du Quoin pushed its lead up to 14 points in the third quarter, but the Pioneers responded with a 19-5 scoring run to tie the game at the end of regulation and force overtime.
Chase Heins had 29 points to lead the Pioneers, while Jesse Smith finished with 24 and Dylan Witthoft added 17.
Connor Wheeler scored 24 points for Du Quoin, while James Williams added 19.
Du Quoin improved to 13-2 on the season, while Trico dropped to 16-1.
Pinckneyville 37, Teutopolis 36
Pinckneyville sprinted out to a big first quarter lead but then had to rally in the fourth quarter to edge Teutopolis 37-36 Saturday in nonconference action.
The Panthers led 17-5 at the end of the first quarter but were outscored, 8-2 in the second and 17-4 in the third, to trail 30-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
Over the final eight minutes, Pinckneyville went on a 14-6 scoring run for the one-point decision.
Hunter Queen led Pinckneyville with 13 points, while Steve Brueggeman finished with 10.
With the win, Pinckneyville improved to 10-5 on the season. The loss was only Teutopolis’ second of the season.
Red Bud 80, Valmeyer 60
Jacob Kueker and Adam Kunkel combined to score 56 points to lead Red Bud past Valmeyer 80-60 Saturday night.
Kueker finished with a game high 32 points, while Kunkel added 24. Kueker also added 14 rebounds and five blocks.
The Musketeers led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and 38-27 by halftime.
Red Bud pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Valmeyer 25-12.
Nashville 49, Sparta 33
Nashville outscored Sparta 12-4 over the final eight minutes to pull away for a 49-33 victory Friday to stay unbeaten in the SIRR Mississippi Division.
The Bulldogs fell behind 13-11 in the first quarter and trailed 29-22 at the break.
The Hornets put the game away by outscoring Sparta 20-11 in the second half.
Jordan Thompson led Sparta with 10 points, while Sam Brown scored 21 to pace Nashville.
Breese Central 57, Red Bud 32
Red Bud stayed close with the state-ranked Breese Central Cougars for one quarter Friday night, but in the end, Central would pull away in the second half for a 57-32 win in the Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division.
At the end of the first quarter, the Musketeers trailed just 14-13. However, the rest of the game was all Breese. The Cougars would finish the game by outscoring Red Bud 15-8 in the second, 15-6 in the third and 13-5 in the fourth for the 25-point decision.
Tyler Magruder led Red Bud with nine points, while Adam Kunkel added eight in the loss.
