Lochhead signs with Lindenwood to play basketball ... 2/5/11

By Jim Beers
Zach Lochhead, a Chester High School senior, has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career upon graduation from CHS at Lindenwood University in Belleville.
Lochhead and his parents, Tim and Wendy Lochhead, traveled to Lindenwood Saturday, February 5 for the official signing of his letter of intent.
During his senior year, Lochhead has had high scoring games of 30, 34 and 43 points. He is currently a captain on the Yellow Jackets squad and has played basketball all four years. This year he is averaging 22 points per game for the Yellow Jackets and holds the Chester High School record for most three-pointers in one game with nine.
In the 2010 Cobden Shoot-Out, Lochhead was the most valuable player and the event’s leading scorer.  At the 2011 Chester High School Invitational Tournament, Lochhead was named to the all-tournament team for the second-year-in-a-row and he was the tournament’s leading scorer.
Lochhead was also the leading scorer of the 2010 Sesser Holiday Tournament and  was an all-tournament team selection.
Last year, Lochhead was selected as a member of the 2009-2010 All-South Basketball team. He played in the Academic/Basketball Showcase Camp in Chicago and made the all-tournament team of the eighth annual Ernie Bozarth Memorial Murphysboro Tournament. He was also the leading scorer in that event.
Lochhead played AAU select basketball for the JETS for three seasons under Coach Dana Morgan. AAU basketball added playing time to his resume and introduced him to a higher level of competition.
