Christopher surprises Chester in Black Diamond Conference action ... 2/3/11

A lot of basketball teams “live” by the three-point shot, but on off nights those same teams can easily “die” by those same shots.
Chester was just 6-of-25 from beyond the arc Thursday night and the inconsistent shooting, along with Zach Lochhead, the team’s top scorer, being in a foul trouble, played a huge role in a 51-47 loss to Christopher.
Lochhead picked up three fouls in the first quarter alone but the Yellow Jackets, behind six points from sophomore Kyle Landon, held a 13-9 advantage.
Chester was just 3-of-9 from the field in the second quarter, while Christopher dialed it up offensively, as Steven Dial scored 11 points in the second quarter, and finished the first half with 19, to give his team a 24-21 halftime lead.
Matt Chandler had five late second quarter points to keep the Jackets within striking distance.
Chester’s shooting woes continued in the third quarter, going just 3-of-11 from the field, which included 0-of-4 from three-point range. To make matters worse, Lochhead picked up his fourth foul with just seconds remaining in the quarter.
Christopher made 6-of-10 shots in the frame with David Ragan leading the way with six points, as the Bearcats led 36-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
Chester’s shooting percentage increased a little in the fourth, making 6-of-15 shots with half of those made shots being three-pointers.
The Yellow Jackets were able to close within two points on two occasions but Christopher made 9-of-10 free throws in the quarter to ice away the win.
Chandler and Landon led Chester with 13 points apiece, while Dial finished with a game-high 23 points for Christopher.
With the loss, Chester dropped to 9-10 overall.
