Dawgs finish fourth at Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament ... 12/30/10

Chester edges Marissa-Coulterville for fifth


Sesser-Valier outlasted Sparta 97-88 in double-overtime to claim third place at the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament Thursday night.
Sparta led 22-17 at halftime, but the host Devils outscored the Bulldogs 24-13 in the third quarter to grab a 41-35 advantage.
In a wild fourth quarter, Sparta outscored Sesser 33-29 to force the extra session. In the second extra frame, Sesser-Valier pulled away for the nine-point victory.
Jordan Thompson and London Oliver had 17 points apiece for Sparta.
Thompson and Zach Lochhead from Chester were named to the all-tournament team.
Chester 59, Marissa-Coulterville 54
Chester rallied from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to knock off Marissa-Coulterville 59-54 Thursday to win fifth place in the tournament.
The game was tied up at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter and the Yellow Jackets held a 24-19 lead at halftime.
The Meteors exploded for 25 points in the third quarter to claim a 46-40 advanatge heading into the fourth.
In the final frame, Chester outscored Marissa-Coulterville 19-10 for the five-point win.
Matt Chandler and Zach Lochhead each had 16 points to lead Chester while Justin Woodward added 14 points.
With the win, Chester improved to 6-6 on the season.
Joey Martin scored a game-high 19 points to lead Chester while Joey Smith finished with 18.
The Meteors dropped to 3-10 on the season with the loss.
