Marissa-Coulterville scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to steal a 6-4 win over Metro East Lutheran Monday in prep baseball action.
The Meteors improved to 5-0 overall on the year with the win.
Logan Tabor picked up the win for Marissa-Coulterville as he gave up just two earned runs on five hits in five innings of work.
David Parkinson and Casey Pitchford both went 1-for-4 with two runs batted in to pace the Meteor attack. Elijah Burton and Kyle Sinn each had one RBI in the win also.
Chester 2
Shawnee 1
Jeremy Wahl hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the 13th inning to give Chester a 2-1 win Monday.
Wahl finished the game going 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI, while Aaron Grah got the win pitching the final three innings in relief of Zach Lochhead, who tossed the first 10 innings.
Shawnee took the lead with a run in the top of the first, while Chester tied the game in the third.
The win was Chester’s third in a row as the team improved to 4-2 on the season.
Chester 7
Century 3
Chester broke away from a 3-3 tie with four unanswered runs for a 7-3 victory over Century to win the Elkville Round Robin Tournament Saturday held in Dowell.
Jeremy Wahl paced the offense with two hits and two runs batted in, while Justin Eggemeyer got the win on the mound.
Aaron Grah and Caleb Arbeiter each had two hits, while Grah also had a run drive in as the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-2 on the season.
Chester 13
Elverado 10
Chester fell behind 7-0 in the first inning, but regrouped to outscore Elverado 13-3 the rest of the way for a 13-10 win in the first leg of the Elkville Round Robin Tournament Saturday held in Dowell.
The Yellow Jacket offense scored two runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third, four in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Matt Herberlie went all seven innings to get the complete game win as he allowed 10 runs on 11 hits.
Jeremy Wahl led the offense with two hits and two runs batted in, while Caleb Arbeiter was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs driven in.
With the win, Chester even up its season record at 2-2.
Steeleville 14
Chester 9
Steeleville scored 14 runs on 11 hits to top Chester in an offensive showdown Friday to earn its first win of the season 14-9.
The Warriors scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning for the early lead, but Chester answered right back with five runs in the top of the second.
The rollercoaster type game continued as the Warriors added four runs in the second and each team scored two runs in the third as Steeleville held a 12-7 lead.
Steeleville increased its lead to 14-7 by scoring two more runs in the fourth. Chester wrapped up its scoring by adding two runs in the sixth.
Josh Diercks got the win, while Zach Lochhead was given the loss.
Kris Beshears went 2-for-3 with a home run and four runs driven in to pace the Warrior attack, while Luke Kilgore was 3-for-4 with a run driven in, Seth Troue had a hit and two RBIs and Andrew Pokrzywinski, Dustin Risinger and Trevor Gordon all had a hit and an RBI.
Jeremy Wahl hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead Chester, while Lochhead had a home run and three RBIs.
Steeleville improved to 1-2 with the win, while Chester dropped to 1-2.
Marissa-Coulterville 13
Chester 3
Cody Mahan went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and scored two times to lead Marissa-Coulterville past Chester 13-3 in five innings Wednesday.
The Meteors opened up the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Chester answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The rest of the game was all Marissa as the team scored two more runs in the second and exploded for nine runs in the third.
Logan Tabor picked up the win for the Meteors, while Michael Meyer was saddled with the loss.
Key hitters for Marissa-Coulterville included Kevin Galle (1-for-1 with three runs batted in), Chris Fullerton (2-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in), and Elijah Burton (1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored).
Jeremy Wahl (1-for-1 with a run batted in) had Chester’s lone hit in the game.
Marissa-Coulterville improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Chester dropped to 1-1.
Sparta 7
Elverado 0
Jordan Thompson was dominant in Sparta’s 7-0 win over Elverado Wednesday. The junior allowed no runs on just one hit, while striking out 14.
Sevens were wild for the Sparta offense as the team scored seven runs on seven hits, while also taking advantage of seven Elverado errors.
The Diamond Dawgs scored three runs in the bottom of the first, a run in the third and three more in the sixth for the six-run win.
The Sparta offense was led by Darious Jackson (2-for-4), Ethan Renner (1-for-3), Matt Wasson (1-for-3), Clinton Hawkins (1-for-3 with an RBI), and Chris Theobald (1-for-4 with an RBI).
Sparta improved to 4-0 with the win.
Red Bud 13
East Alton-Wood River 2
Stefan Gregson, Josh Dietz and Caleb Ratz combined to drive in nine runs as Red Bud routed East Alton-Wood River Wednesday 13-2.
Each of the three were 1-for-2 from the plate with three runs batted in with a run scored.
Gregson picked up the win on the mound as he gave up just two runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
The Musketeers improved to 1-1 on the season with the win.
Murphysboro 16
Trico 2
Murphysboro improved to 4-0, while Trico fell to 0-1 after the Red Devils cruised to a 16-2 victory at home Wednesday.
Murphysboro jumped on Trico right from the start scoring five runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third for a 12-0 lead.
The Pioneers got on the score board in the fourth by scoring two runs, but Murphysboro put the game away in the fifth with four more runs for the 14-point decision.
Sophomore Dylan Witthoft took the loss for Trico, while Matt Bunselmeyer led the Pioneer offense with a double and two runs batted in. Freshman Klayton Bunselmeyer went 1-for-1 in the loss.
Trico managed just two runs on two hits, while committing five errors in the lopsided defeat.
Hamilton County 12
Pinckneyville 2
Pinckneyville finished with more errors than hits or runs Wednesday in a 12-2 loss to Hamilton County.
The Panthers had just two hits to go along with their two runs, but had three errors in the loss.
“You are going to struggle any time that you have more errors than hits,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We haven’t made any adjustments at the plate from game one to three, we aren’t taking our fundamentals seriously, and we hang our heads as soon as we run into a little adversity. Those are three things that are a recipe for disaster. We’ll shake things up a little next game and see where we are at afterward.”
The Panthers grabbed the early lead scoring a run in the top of the second inning, but Hamilton County took control with six runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Pinckneyville added another run in the third, but couldn’t keep up with Hamilton County as the Foxes scored two runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings for the 10-run win.
Bryant Shute dropped to 0-2 on the season as the sophomore allowed six runs on six hits, while striking out three over two innings of work.
Michael Rakers and Landon Chandler each went 1-for-3 to pace the Pinckneyville offense.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 0-3 on the season.
