Boys baseball roundup - Panthers hit late season skid ... 5/10/11

Red Bud 6, Carlyle 1
Dominic Frisch drove in two runs and Adam Kunkel went the distance allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out seven to lead Red Bud past Carlyle 6-1 Tuesday in Cahokia Conference Mississippi Division baseball action.
The Musketeers scored single runs in each of the first two innings and scored a pair of runs in the third for a 4-0 lead.
Red Bud added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while Carlyle’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth.
Alex Phegley finished with two hits for Red Bud, while Jordan Schneider, Colin Wiegard and Zach Seibold all drove in runs.
Teutopolis 17, Pinckneyville 1
Teutopolis scored 17 runs off of 14 hits to run past Pinckneyville 17-1 Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the second, five in the third and five in the fourth.
“Teutopolis has a tremendous ball club and we really struggled against them today to say the least,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We pitched from behind in the count most of the game, and that allowed Teutopolis to sit on pitches and drive them Offensively, we didn't capitalize on being up in the count and just looked to put the ball into play.”
Matthew Nichols took the loss for the Panthers, as he gave up 12 runs, 10 earned, on 13 hits over three innings of work.
Brandon Long was 1-for-3 and drove in Pinckneyville’s lone run.
With the loss, Pinckneyville dropped to 19-9 on the season.
Marissa-Coulterville 6, Dupo 1
After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning, Marissa-Coulterville responded by scoring the game’s next six runs for the 6-1 victory Monday.
With the win, the Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division champion Meteors finished conference play with a 9-1 record.
Logan Tabor pitched five innings allowing just one run on one hit, while striking out five for the win.
Joey Martin drove in two runs to pace the offense, while Tabor and Matt Ervin each had two hits and an RBI.
Carterville 8, Pinckneyville 1
Despite out-hitting Carterville 6-4, Pinckneyville managed to score just one run and found itself on the wrong side of an 8-1 decision Monday. It was the fifth consecutive loss for the Panthers after dropping a pair against Harrisburg and losing two in the O’Fallon Classic
Carterville took the lead for good by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Lions added a run in the fourth and three in the sixth.
The Panthers lone run came in the top of the seventh.
“Every team goes through a rough patch at some part of the season, you just have to hope that patch is not as close to the end of the year as ours has been,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “We have some people pressing instead of playing relaxed and enjoying the game. We actually out-hit Carterville, but we walked seven batters and hit four today; we aren't going to win many games with that stat line.”
Hunter Queen took the loss for Pinckneyville as he gave up four runs, just one earned, on no hits over nearly three innings of work.
C.J. Opp had two hits to lead the Panthers, while Adam Barczewski drove in the team’s lone run.
Pinckneyville dropped to 19-8 overall with the loss.
Vienna 5, Chester 4
Vienna rallied from a 4-3 deficit by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal a victory away from Chester Monday 5-4.
Chester led 2-1 after two innings of play and added two more runs in the fourth.
Vienna battled back, scoring two runs in the sixth and two more in the last inning for the win.
Caleb Arbeiter took the loss, while Jeremy Wahl was 3-for-3 to lead the Jacket attack.
With the loss, Chester dropped to 13-9 overall and 3-5 in the Black Diamond.
Lebanon 4, Steeleville 3
Lebanon scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge out Steeleville 4-3 Monday.
The Warriors scored three runs in the fourth inning and led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Kris Beshears took the loss for Steeleville, while the offense was led by Seth Troue (2-for-3) and Darin Winkelman (1-for-2 with a double).
With the loss, Steeleville dropped to 3-15 on the season.
Columbia 18, Red Bud 6
Columbia scored 11 runs in the seventh inning to break open a close game and pull away for an 18-6 victory over Red Bud Monday.
The Eagles scored five runs in the first inning and held a 6-2 advantage after three innings of play.
The Musketeers battled back scoring two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth, while Columbia was held to just one run over that span.
Zach Seibold pitched five innings allowing seven runs on eight hits to receive the loss.
Dominic Frisch was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and two runs batted in to lead Red Bud. Seibold was 2-for-4 from the plate with three runs batted in. Colin Wiegard also homered for the Musketeers.
Marissa-Coulterville 9, New Athens 2
Marissa-Coulterville scored eight runs over the first two innings en route to a 9-2 win over New Athens Thursday.
Tyler Sinn notched the win for the Meteors as he tossed all seven innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, while striking out seven.

Pinckneyville 14, Waltonville 1
Pinckneyville scored six runs in the third and seven in the fourth to pull away with a 14-1 victory over Waltonville Thursday.
“It was good to see us get back to taking good relaxed cuts as today's game went along,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “Hunter Queen threw the ball pretty well for us today, looking the most relaxed and fluid on the mound as he has all year, keeping the ball down, and hitting spots.”
Queen picked up the win as he tossed all five innings allowing one run, none earned, on just one hit, while striking out nine.
Matthew Nichols led the Pinckneyville charge with two hits and three runs batted in. Brandon Long also drove in three runs as he finished with a home run as well.
Adam Barczewski also hit a homer and finished with three runs scored.
Freeburg 5, Red Bud 2
Freeburg opened the game with four runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 5-2 victory over Red Bud Thursday.
Red Bud scored its two runs in the top of the fifth inning, while Freeburg added another run in the third.
Adam Kunkel pitched five innings allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits, while striking out five in the loss.
Tyler Magruder was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Musketeers, while Kunkel also drove a run home.
