Lebanon 2, Marissa-Coulterville 1
In a battle of top teams in the Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division, Lebanon edged out Marissa-Coulterville in a pitchers’ duel 2-1 Tuesday.
The Greyhounds scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Kyle Sinn took the loss despite allowing just two runs on six hits, while striking out nine. His counterpart, Tyler Sonsoucie went the distance allowing just one run on five hits, while striking out 13.
Logan Tabor was the lone Meteor to have more than one hit, with two, while Sinn drove in the team’s only run.
Breese Central 18, Red Bud 3
Nothing went right for Red Bud in an 18-3 loss to Breese Central Tuesday. Central scored 18 runs on 16 hits, while Red Bud committed seven errors.
With the game tied 1-1 after two innings of play, Breese Central scored five runs in the third, four in the fourth and eight in the fifth for the 15-run decision.
The Musketeers were held to a run in the bottom of the second and two in the third.
Tyler Magruder took the loss, giving up seven runs, three earned, on seven hits.
Dominic Frisch paced the Musketeer attack with two hits and an RBI. Alex Phegley and Tommy Schwartz also drove in runs in the loss.
Nashville 12, Pinckneyville 9
Nashville rallied from an early 8-0 deficit to defeat Pinckneyville 12-9 Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, this is a game we should have definitely won after leading 8-0, but we didn’t hold on,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. “My biggest disappointment was that when Nashville started chipping into our lead, we hung our heads and backed down instead of competing.  When things were going well early, we really battled and worked, but as soon as we ran into problems. Unfortunately in the fifth, when C.J. (Opp) went down to an injury, our pitching really never shut Nashville down again.”
The Panthers scored a single run in the top of the first inning and added seven in the second for the 8-0 advantage.
Nashville got on the scoreboard with three runs in the third.
After Pinckneyville added another run in the fourth, Nashville scored seven in the fifth and two in the sixth for the come-from-behind win.
Noah Hepp, who tossed less than an inning, was credited with the loss.
Brandon Long drove in three runs to lead the Panther attack, while Matthew Nichols was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
With the loss, Pinckneyville is 6-3 on the season.
Anna-Jonesboro 7, Sparta 2
Anna-Jonesboro scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in a 7-2 victory over Sparta Tuesday.
Jordan Thompson was saddled with the loss, while Austin Peck paced the offense going 2-for-3.
Valmeyer 5, Steeleville 4
Valmeyer broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 5-4 win over Steeleville Tuesday.
Steeleville scored a single run in the second inning for the early lead. Valmeyer scored four runs in the third for its first lead of the game. The Warriors battled back to score three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Luke Kilgore took the loss on the mound for Steeleville, while the offense was led by Seth Troue (2-for-4 two doubles and an RBI), Darin Winkelman (2-for-4 with two RBI) and A.J. Jeffers (2-for-3 with a home run).
Red Bud 12, Althoff 6
In game two of the doubleheader with Althoff, Red Bud scored 12 runs on 13 hits to roll to a 12-6 win Saturday.
The Musketeers scored four runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Zach Seibold earned the win allowing six runs, just one earned, on one hit, while striking out seven and walking six.
Adam Kunkel was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two runs batted in. Alex Phegley drove in four wins, while Tyler Magruder finished with two RBI. Ryan Wendt and Steven Roy each also drove in two runs in the win.
Althoff 10, Red Bud 8
Althoff rallied from a 6-1 deficit to knock off Red Bud 10-8 in eight innings Saturday.
Althoff scored two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to force extra innings.
In the eighth inning, Althoff tallied four runs in the top half of the frame. Red Bud rallied to score two runs in the bottom half but it was not enough.
Steven Roy was saddled with the loss, as he gave up four runs on six hits in just one plus innings of work.
Dominic Frisch was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in to lead the Musketeer attack. Tyler Magruder and Alex Phegley also had three hits in the loss.
Trico 13, Waltonville-Sesser-Valier 3
Trico finished the doubleheader sweep of Waltonville-Sesser-Valier by scoring eight runs in the third inning en route to a 13-3 win Saturday in just five innings.
Daron Meyerhoff got the win on the mound and went 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs batted in.
Patrick Heller went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Dylan Witthoft was 2-for-3 with a double in the win.
Trico improved to 3-6 on the season with the win.


Trico 11, Waltonville-Sesser-Valier 10
Dylan Witthoft bashed two home runs and drove in a pair of runs to help Trico rally for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with an 11-10 win over Waltonville-Sesser-Valier in game one of a double header Saturday.
Both teams scored three runs in the first inning and Trico led 5-4 after two innings of play.
Waltonville-Sesser-Valier scored the next seven runs to grab a 10-5 lead after five innings of play.
The Pioneers began their rally with two runs in the sixth and then stole the victory in the bottom of the seventh.
Brandon Rickenberg picked up the win out of the bullpen for the Pioneers.
Other top hitters for Trico were Jesse Smith (2-for-4 with two RBI), Patrick Heller (2-for-4 with an RBI), and Tyler Coleman (2-for-4 with a double).
Sparta 9, Benton 5
Sparta tallied five runs in the fifth inning and took advantage of five Benton errors for a 9-5 victory Saturday.
Dalton Robert tossed five innings to notch the win for the Bulldogs, while the offense was led by the trio of Darius Jackson (1-for-3 with a double and three RBI), Jordan Thompson (2-for-4 with a double and an RBI), and Aaron Rushing (1-for-4 with a double and two RBI).
Pinckneyville 7, Marion 6
Pinckneyville scored the game’s first six runs but had to hold on late for a 7-6 win over Marion Saturday.
The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the second inning, one in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Pinckneyville also added an insurance run in the seventh, which turned out to be the game winner.
Marion rallied to score three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to fall just one run short.
Evan Chapman got the win, while Matthew Nichols (2-for-3 with an RBI) and Marian Brammeier (1-for-3 with two RBI) led the Pinckneyville offense.
The Panthers improved to 6-2 with the win.
Waterloo 11, Red Bud 1
Waterloo scored in each of the five innings en route to an 11-1 win over Red Bud Thursday.
Adam Kunkel’s fourth inning solo home run accounted for the Musketeers only run in the game.
Tyler Magruder was hit for the loss, as he gave up nine runs, seven earned, on nine hits over four plus innings of work.
Trico 6, Sparta 1
Matt Bunselmeyer struck out nine batters and allowed just one run on four hits to lead Trico over Sparta 6-1 Thursday.
The Pioneers scored a single run in the bottom of the first, two in the second and three in the third. Sparta’s lone run came in the top of the second.
Dylan Witthoft led the Trico offense going 2-for-2 with two home runs, while George Kuhlman and Bunselmeyer each also had a hit in the win.
Sparta senior Jordan Thompson was saddled with the loss giving up six runs on seven hits. Darius Jackson went 1-for-3 with a double and Ian Wolter was 1-for-3 with the team’s lone RBI.
Pinckneyville 12, Steeleville 2
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Pinckneyville scored seven runs in the second and five in the third en route to a 12-2 win over Steeleville Thursday.
Panthers scored 12 runs on eight hits and took advantage of four Steeleville errors.
“I thought we did a good job of playing solid in a lot of areas today,” said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt.  We weren't great swinging the bats, but we put enough good swings on the ball in scoring situations to put up some runs.”
Steeleville grabbed the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning but Pinckneyville took back control of the contest by posting 12 runs over the next two innings.
Steeleville’s final run came in the fourth frame.
C.J. Opp picked up the win allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, while striking out seven.
“C.J. didn't have his best stuff today, which is probably our fault for not getting him enough innings recently, but he gutted through it and made pitches when he needed to,” added Engelhardt. “Defensively, we did a pretty good job of once again not making very many mistakes.”
The Panther offense was led by Brandon Long (1-for-2 with two RBI), Joey Burris (2-for-2), Bryant Shute (1-for-2 with a RBI) and Matthew Nichols (1-for-2 with a RBI).
Kris Beshears received the loss for Steeleville giving up seven runs, five earned, over two innings of work.
Dustin Risinger and Seth Troue each had a hit and a run batted in to pace the Steeleville attack.
Pinckneyville improved to 5-2 with the win.
Chester 10, Trico 4
Caleb Arbeiter went 3-for-4 from the plate, drove in four runs and picked up the win on the mound to lead Chester past Trico 10-4 Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets scored a single run in the bottom of the first, two in the second, five in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Trico was held to three runs in the second and a run in the fourth.
Jeremy Wahl went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in, while Zach Lochhead was 2-for-4 with two doubles for Chester.
Daron Meyerhoff received the loss for the Pioneers. The Trico offense was led by Jesse Smith (2-for-4) and Dylan Witthoft (3-for-4 with a double).
Wesclin 12, Marissa-Coulterville 2
Marissa-Coulterville dropped its third consecutive game Wednesday, falling 12-2 to Wesclin.
The Meteors trailed 4-0 before adding single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Wesclin finished the game in the fifth inning posting three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth for the 10-run decision.
Cory Mahan got the loss, as he tossed three innings allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits.
Cobden 11, Steeleville 1
Cobden scored 11 unanswered runs to defeat Steeleville 11-1 in five innings Wednesday.
Dustin Risinger drove in Steeleville’s only run in the top of the first inning for a quick 1-0 but Cobden responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Cobden added a sole run in the third and four in the fourth. Luke Kilgore was saddled with the loss.
Kilgore went 2-for-2 from the plate and Nick Potter was 2-for-3 to lead Steeleville.
The win was Cobden’s first of the season.
