The Red Bud Musketeers baseball team went 1-2 to open the season at the Lenz Field and Sports Complex 2011 High School Jamboree in Jacksonville, Illinois March 18 and 19.
In game one, Red Bud gave up a 5-2 lead to fall to Marquette Academy of Ottawa, Illinois 6-5.
Alex Phegley and Colin Wiegard each went 1-for-4 with two runs batted in to pace the Red Bud offense.
Ryan Wendt was saddled with the loss, as he gave up three runs on two hits.
The Musketeers bounced back Saturday, recording an 8-1 win over Midland from Varna, Illinois.
Red Bud scored the first six runs of the game and never looked back.
Seth Heizer drove in two runs on two hits, while Jordan Buch, Adam Kunkel, Alex Phegley, Zach Seibold and Ryan Wendt all picked up one RBI in the win.
Kunkel tossed five innings allowing one run on three hits, while striking out six to notch the win.
In the final game of the jamboree, two big innings cost Red Bud in an 11-7 loss to Reed Custer of Braidwood, Illinois.
The Musketeers scored two runs in the first, three in the third and two in the seventh. But it was not enough to recover from giving up five runs in the second and fifth innings to Reed Custer.
Tyler Magruder had a big game offensively, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and a run scored, while Phegley drove in two runs on one hit.
Seibold picked up the loss as he gave up six runs on eight hits over three innings of work.
