Baseball, softball regionals begin May 17 ... 5/5/10


The high school softball and baseball postseason will get underway May 17 at several local regional sites.
In baseball, local teams will be divided up in to four different regionals.
Trico will host a 1A baseball regional and received the fifth seed out of six teams. The Pioneers will travel to take on four-seeded Eldorado May 17 at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on top-seeded Goreville Wednesday, May 19 at Trico starting at 4:30 p.m. The regional finals are set for Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m. Other teams participating in the regional include Crab Orchard (2), Galatia (3) and Thompsonville (6).
At the Okawville 1A Baseball Regional, Marissa-Coulterville got the top seed and a first round bye. Steeleville got seeded fourth out of five teams and will host the fifth seed Elverado May 17 at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game will take on Marissa-Coulterville Wednesday, May 19 at Okawville starting at 4:30 p.m. The regional finals are set for Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m. Other teams participating in the regional include Okawville (2) and New Athens (3).
At the Red Bud 2A Baseball Regional, the host Musketeers got the two seed and Chester got the fifth seed out of five teams. Chester will travel to take on Gibault (5) May 17 at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on top-seeded Columbia Wednesday, May 19 at Red Bud starting at 4:30 p.m. Red Bud will host Freeburg (3) Thursday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The regional finals are set for Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m.
At the Nashville 2A Baseball Regional, Pinckneyville is the third seed and Sparta is the fourth seed out of five teams. The Bulldogs will host Waltonville (5) May 17 at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on top-seeded Du Quoin Wednesday, May 19 at Nashville starting at 4:30 p.m. Pinckneyville will travel to take on Nashville (2) Thursday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The regional finals are set for Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m.
Over on the softball side, local teams will be divided up into three regionals.
Trico will host a 1A softball regional and received the second seed out of five teams.  Steeleville got the fifth seed and will travel to take on Elverado (4) May 17 at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on top-seeded Marissa-Coulterville Tuesday, May 18 at Trico starting at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Pioneers will host New Athens (3) Wednesday, May 19 in the other semifinal. The regional finals are set for Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m.
At the Murphysboro 2A Softball Regional, Pinckneyville got the top seed and a first round bye while Sparta got the third and Chester received the fifth seed out of five teams. Chester will travel to Murphysboro to take on the Lady Red Devils (4) Monday, May 17 at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on the Lady Panthers Tuesday, May 18 in Murphysboro at 4:30 p.m. In the other semifinal, Anna-Jonesboro (2) will take on Sparta in Murphysboro Wednesday, May 19. The regional finals are set for Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m.
At the Columbia 2A Softball Regional, Red Bud received the third seed out of five teams. The Lady Musketeers take on Gibault (2) in Columbia Wednesday, May 19 at 4:30 p.m. The regional finals are set for Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m. Other teams participating in the regional include Columbia (1), Nashville (4) and Freeburg (5).
