The County Journal newspaper began publishing in April, 1980 and was established by brothers, Larry and Jerry Willis. The newspaper covers Randolph, Perry and parts of Jackson and St. Clair counties.
Both have journalism backgrounds but in areas other than newspapers. The Journal has grown to be the largest paid weekly newspaper south of Springfield in the state of Illinois.
Countyjournalsports.com launched in August of 2009 under the direction and administration of editor Greg Myers. Myers has been the sports writer for the Journal for over the past seven years and has expanded its local sports coverage considerably. The purpose of the website is to allow its readers with a chance to stay on top of their local sports on a more daily basis instead of just weekly.
