The Carbondale duo of Lucas Cherry and Lacey Gibson claimed top honors at the Steeleville Firecracker 3K race held Monday morning.
Cherry, 20, finished the race strong to edge out Bailey Bunyon to take first place overall with a time of 8:51. Andrew Norton took third followed by Wesley Bradshaw of Walsh, James Wooldridge of Herrin, Jonathan Hill of Sparta, Blake Davenport of Murphysboro, Dylan Gibson of Carbondale, Brad Blakeley of West Frankfort and Shyler Mathis of Carbondale.
Gibson, 18, finished with a time of 10:48 to win the women’s overall title. Jan Gautier took second with a time of 11:51. The top 10 was rounded out by Molly Works of Lenzburg, Stephanie Schneider of St. Louis, Hannah Cherry of Carbondale, Sydney Gavtier, Marla Rathjen of Jacob, Alina Lance of New Athens, Ashlee Childers of Herrin and Kelsie Coop of Walsh.
