Stults, Koenegstein win 30th annual Popeye 5K


The boyfriend-girlfriend combination of Danny Stults and Juli Koenegstein took top honors at the 30th annual Popeye 5K race Saturday morning, which featured a record number of entries.
Stults of Stillwater, Oklahoma was the overall winner finishing with a time of 17:05, while Koenegstein of Chester was the top women’s runner finishing with a time of 18:57.
Jake Prielipp of Carbondale took second followed by Devin Horner of Beecher, Josh Sherle of New Athens, Scott Ishman of Carbondale, Samuel Wilson of McLeansboro, Cory Usher of Chester, Ron Burke of Oak Park, and Brad Warhausen of Steeleville.
In the women’s competition, Jennifer Wieman-Smith of O’Fallon took second followed by Lindsay Mueller of Steeleville, Nancy Adams of Carterville, Loran Luehr of Steeleville, Marla Rathjen of Jacob, Gina Dingman of Edwardsville, Joanna Bean of Carterville, Jessica Kranawetter of
Campbell Hill, and Cindy Zeman of Anna.
