Winning nine of 12 running events on the way to scoring 153 points, the Sparta Bulldog track team captured their fourth straight track and field sectional title last Thursday at Chester. The accomplishment came just a week after winning their fourth straight conference title as well. Trenton Wesclin earned second place in the meet with 98 points and Chester took third with 74 points. Du Quoin finished in fourth with 49 points and Breese Mater Dei took fifth with 33.
“We definitely ran our best at the sectional meet,” Sparta head coach Matt Blair said. “We’re sending 10 kids to state in 12 events and we won nine of 12 running events. It doesn’t get much better than that. It’s even cooler to think that our seniors haven’t lost a conference or sectional title in all of their four years, in track or cross country. That’s a great accomplishment.”
